“The Phoenix Project”, a one-of-its-kind obstacle course race designed for adventure, camaraderie, physical exercise and pure unadulterated fun has taken a step forward to support inclusion through 'Amrit Foundation of India'. Amrit Foundation has been working extensively with children with intellectual and development challenges and integrates them with the mainstream society.
The promoters of The Phoenix Project, Sports Group Asia is extending its support to 'Amrit Foundation of India’ as their long-term commitment and an attempt to alter the dynamic of 'space,’ the power-relations it entails and subverting the normative, The Phoenix Project wish to create a more inclusive space for children with special needs through mainstreaming of disability.
In one of their recent initiatives, The Phoenix Project and 'Amrit Foundation of India organized a Sports Program at The Srijan School in Delhi. Sports program also saw the participation from students of Sparsh School and Sahara School. A mock obstacle was created with the help of resources available at school (Eg chairs, tables, ladders, cones, ropes) which was surmounted by the kids with great zeal.
Sports Group Asia is gearing up for their upcoming, The Phoenix Project which is scheduled on 4th December at GSR Drive, Sector – 36, Sohna Road, South Gurgaon. In addition to the Phoenix Project (Age – 16+ yrs) which is a 5 Kilometer mud-track layered with 20+ International level obstacles, Sports Group Asia is also committed to forge bonds over sport for these children with special needs through The Nixie Project (Age 8-15 yrs) which is a 1 Kilometer mud-track layered with 7-10 easy obstacles for children.
The Phoenix and Nixie projects are just not about successfully completing your respective races; it also provides you an opportunity to interact with other participants in The Phoenix Settlement. The buzz at the Phoenix Settlement marks the celebration of the participants' success. There is a complete carnival-like atmosphere with the music concert, Zumba and many fun engagements like The Phoenix Zone (Cross fit zone), Phoenix Hunter (spear throw), Phoenix Guzzler (beer station) etc. to keep the adrenaline flowing and food stalls to keep the participants energized and happy.
So when you register yourself for ‘The Phoenix Project’ or your kid for ‘The Nixie Project’, remember you also contribute to a cause which promises to bring these children with special needs close to the mainstream society and help them live their life fully and also contribute to nation building.
